Douglas C.’s Solar Journey: Pioneering the Tesla Powerwall 3 on Oahu

The Challenge: High Utility Costs

Douglas C., a homeowner in Kaneohe, reached out to Eco Solar Hawaii after being shocked by the high costs of his Oahu utility service. Having previously used solar on Maui, Douglas was eager to offset his energy costs in his new home.

Choosing Eco Solar Hawaii

Douglas shared that he chose Eco Solar Hawaii because we came highly recommended by his home inspector and had excellent online reviews. This made the decision a “no-brainer” for Douglas and his wife, who both value quality.

Custom Solar Solution with Cutting-Edge Technology

Our team, led by Matt Householder, designed a custom solar solution featuring the cutting-edge Tesla Powerwall 3 to meet Douglas’s energy needs. This installation was particularly exciting as it was one of the first Powerwall 3 installations on Oahu, part of Eco Solar’s pilot program showcasing Tesla’s latest and greatest energy storage technology.

Douglas, who describes himself as a “tech nerd,” was thrilled at the opportunity to be at the forefront of this innovation. He shared, “One reason I opted for the Tesla Powerwall 3 is because I’ve been following what’s been going on there. Knowing it’s the latest and greatest, I was eager to be part of the pilot program.”

The Installation: Solar Panels and Powerwall 3

On May 7th, 2024, we installed a system featuring:

  • 16 Maxeon SPR-MAX3-430-R panels, generating 6.88 KW DC
  • 1 Tesla Powerwall 3, providing 13.5 kWh of energy storage capacity

Powerwall 3: Advanced Home Energy Storage

The Powerwall 3 in Douglas’s home exemplifies the latest advancements in residential energy storage. Key features include:

  • Full-house power during outages
  • Enhanced capacity for more power from a single unit
  • Modular design for easy future expansions
  • Built-in solar inverter for direct solar panel connection
  • Versatile integration with new or existing solar setups
  • User-friendly mobile app for energy monitoring and system optimization

Impressive Energy Savings

With his new solar and Powerwall 3 system, Douglas is expected to save:

  • 990 kWh per month
  • $396 in total monthly electricity bill savings
  • This includes $140 per month in optimized savings from Tesla Powerwall 3

Financial Incentives

To make the switch to solar more affordable, Douglas took advantage of several financial incentives:

Swift and Professional Installation

Our efficient team completed the entire installation in just 4 hours, impressing Douglas and his wife with their speed and professionalism.

The Result: Energy Independence and Savings

Today, Douglas enjoys significant monthly savings of $536 on his electricity costs. His new solar and battery storage system not only reduces his carbon footprint but also provides energy independence and reliable backup power during outages.

“Matt came over and did a great job of laying everything out for us, giving us our financing options, and being upfront about our needs. We really appreciated that transparency and forward honesty. I’m a tech nerd myself. One reason I opted for the Tesla Powerwall 3 is because I’ve been following what’s been going on there. Knowing it’s the latest and greatest, I was eager to be part of the pilot program. Now that it’s installed, I can check out what’s going on within the app. It’s really cool to see where the power generated is going and when we pull from the grid, almost in real time.”
