Prepaid Solar Lease on Oahu: Affordable Solar, Simplified

High electricity bills. Unpredictable outages. Rising energy costs. These are challenges Oahu homeowners face every day, and solar remains one of the most reliable long-term solutions for gaining energy independence and protecting your home during grid disruptions.

At Eco Solar Hawaii, we have been helping families go solar since 2008. As the solar landscape continues to change, we partnered with a trusted financing provider to introduce a prepaid lease option that gives homeowners another way to go solar. It offers a clear initial cost with no ongoing monthly payments. This model allows them to apply available business-level incentives, which helps keep pricing competitive. For many families, this results in a net investment similar to what homeowners paid when federal tax credits were available.

This new option has been added to our traditional cash and loan programs, giving you more flexibility to find what works best for your home and budget.

How It Works

The prepaid lease is straightforward. You make a single upfront payment that covers the system’s use on your home. The financing provider owns the system during the lease term, which keeps pricing accessible and simplifies the process.

Here’s what makes this different from traditional solar leases:

No Credit Check Required
Your credit score doesn’t factor into approval.

No Property Lien
Nothing is recorded against your home title.

Transferable
If you sell your home, the new owner takes over the agreement with no credit check or underwriting. Just a simple transfer notice.

You Operate the System
You operate and monitor it just like a purchased system, tracking production through the app and optimizing your energy use.

Your Path to Ownership

Another key benefit is that you have the opportunity to purchase the system and become the owner.

Starting After Year 6:
You can choose to buy out the system at any time after the sixth anniversary of installation.

How the Purchase Price Works:
The buyout price is based on fair market value minus applicable offsetting obligations and is determined at the time of purchase.

End of Term Choices:
At the end of the 25-year lease term, you can:

  • Purchase the system at its fair market value
  • Extend the agreement
  • Have the system removed

There’s no obligation to purchase, but the opportunity is there if you want to transition to full ownership down the road.

Is This Right for You?

The prepaid lease makes sense for Oahu homeowners who:

Want Solar With Simplified Financing
The prepaid structure offers straightforward pricing while streamlining the process.

Prefer Clear Upfront Cost
You know exactly what you’re paying from the start – no interest and no monthly payment surprises.

Value Energy Security
When sized for your energy needs, whole home backup helps keep your family comfortable during outages, which are increasingly common on Oahu.

Plan to Stay in Your Home OR Want Easy Transfer
Whether you’re settled long-term or might sell in the future, the agreement works for both scenarios.

Want Quality You Can Trust
You’re not willing to compromise on equipment or installation standards.

Still the Same Eco Solar Hawaii Quality

Choosing a prepaid lease doesn’t change the experience of working with us. Your system is designed by our team based on your home’s specific energy needs and roof configuration. We use high-efficiency Q CELLS solar panels and Tesla Powerwall 3 battery systems. Our local crew handles the installation with the same attention to detail and craftsmanship that earned us our 4.6 star reputation.

After installation, we’re here for ongoing support, just like with any Eco Solar Hawaii project. Questions about your production? Need service? We’re here to help.

The only difference is how you pay for it.

Three Ways to Go Solar

We offer multiple ways to go solar because every homeowner’s situation is different:

Cash Purchase
Own your system immediately. Typically the highest long-term return.

Solar Loan
Spread payments over time with monthly loan payments. You own the system and build equity as you pay.

Prepaid Lease
Single upfront payment. No monthly obligations. System owned by financing partner with buyout opportunity after year 6. Simplified process.

There’s no single “best” choice. It depends on your financial goals and how long you plan to stay in your home. Our role is to help you understand all three clearly so you can make the right decision for your family.
